Haley Scranton, LCPC
Why I do this Work: I firmly believe that everyone needs a helping hand or a good listening ear. I am here to be that support for you! I am passionate about helping others and guiding them to happier and healthier versions of themselves. My goal is to help facilitate meaningful conversations and empower change!
Education and Experience: I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Towson University. I then went on to earn my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Washington Adventist University. During my Master’s program, I completed internships that began to mold the clinician I am today. I provided group and individual therapy to clients at a partial hospitalization program at Washington Adventist Hospital. I also interned through the Linkages to Learning program at Parkland Middle School in Montgomery County, MD. And finally, I interned with Family Division Services through Montgomery County Circuit Court, where I facilitated intakes, adoption and custody services, as well as guardianship reports.
After I graduated from my Master’s program, I moved to Fredericksburg, VA, where I obtained my first job in corrections for both juveniles and adults. I provided group, individual, and family therapy for clients ranging from ten years old to eighty years old. I utilized a wide variety of treatment modalities, working with clients impacted by both mental health and substance abuse. I provided anger management and substance abuse group services, and worked closely with families for wraparound client care. I worked in the correctional facility for five years before moving back to Maryland and obtaining a job at The Siena School, a school designed and dedicated to students with language-based learning differences. I am the current school counselor there, providing support to students in 4-12th grade.
Specialties/Passions: I am extremely passionate about working with children and adolescents. I enjoy building meaningful relationships so that I can do my best work in supporting our kiddos through their hectic lives! I use a variety of treatment modalities, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy being a favorite of mine. I believe behavior management and the use of positive reinforcement can be quite impactful. Building a relationship and trust is imperative to making therapy meaningful, and I plan to do my best to achieve this with all of the clients I get the privilege to work with!
Not so specialties: Personality and Eating Disorders are not in my area of expertise. However, I am more than happy to refer you or help assist you in finding a great therapist!
