Angel McCord, LCSW-C

Psychotherapist

Licensed & able to see clients in both Maryland and Virginia

Why I do this work:
I believe mental health is essential to our well-being, and I have a true passion for helping others feel validated, accepted, and supported in their journey. I am humbled to be able to walk alongside individuals during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

My Education & Experience:
I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from Millersville University of Pennsylvania, later pursuing my Master’s degree (MSW) through the Advanced Standing Program of Temple University – Harrisburg.

While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I interned with a private adoption agency and was offered employment prior to graduation. I developed expertise within the field of adoption and was able to complete my Masters’ internship at the same agency, providing psychoeducation and counseling to birth and adoptive parents.

I have over 11 years of post-graduate experience providing individual and family therapy in home, school, and community settings. I was also the supervisor of a Multi-Systemic Therapy program, overseeing two teams of therapists treating high risk youth, ages 13-17. My other experience and areas of interest include: medical social work, early intervention (birth-5 years old), early childhood mental health, evidence-based parenting programs, and health/chronic disease management.

My Specialties:
My passion lies with working individually with female teens and adults who are seeking peace from depression, anxiety, stress, grief & loss, infertility, difficulties with life transitions, relationship challenges, difficulties dealing with a diagnosis (self or family member), postpartum depression, adoption/attachment-related issues, low self-esteem, poor body image, and negative relationships with food. My approach is rooted in resiliency and focused on helping individuals develop deeper insight. We will work together to explore thought patterns and challenge behaviors that are not serving you, using a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, and self-compassion. My intention is to create a safe and inclusive environment where you can receive validation, empathy, and guidance while learning new ways of thinking.

My Not-So-Specialties:
Clients experiencing addictions of any type or major personality disorders are not the best fit for my professional background. However, I am part of a wonderful network of therapists and can provide referral options to assist you.

“Wherever you are right now, let it teach you something. Be kind to yourself on the journey and in the process of who you are becoming.” -Morgan Harper Nichols
