Angel McCord, LCSW-C

Psychotherapist

Licensed & able to see clients in both Maryland and Virginia

Why I do this work:
I believe mental health is essential to our well-being, and I have a true passion for helping others feel validated, accepted, and supported in their journey. I am humbled to be able to walk alongside individuals during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

My Education & Experience:
I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from Millersville University of Pennsylvania, later pursuing my Master’s degree (MSW) through the Advanced Standing Program of Temple University. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Maryland and Virginia.

While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I gained my first experience by interning with a private adoption agency and was offered employment prior to graduation. I developed expertise within the field of adoption and was able to complete my Masters’ internship at the same agency, providing psychoeducation and counseling to birth and adoptive parents.

I have over 15 years of experience providing individual and family therapy in home, school, and community settings. My advanced experience includes serving as the supervisor of a Multi-Systemic Therapy program, overseeing two teams of therapists treating high risk youth, ages 13-17. My other experience includes: medical social work, early intervention (birth-5 years old), early childhood mental health, evidence-based parenting programs, and health/chronic disease management.

My Specialties:
I am most passionate about working individually with adults (ages 18+) who experience any form of anxiety, especially those who identify as “high functioning,” perfectionistic, people pleasers. Additionally, I enjoy supporting those seeking peace from depression, stress, grief & loss, infertility, difficulties with life transitions, relationship challenges, difficulties navigating a diagnosis (self or family member), postpartum depression/anxiety, adoption/attachment-related issues, low self-esteem, poor body image, and negative relationships with food.

Humans are beautifully complex, so I use a combination of approaches to best meet your needs. These include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, and self-compassion. I also have training in Radically Open-Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT) and Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP).

My approach is rooted in resiliency and focused on helping individuals recognize their strength and develop deeper insight. We will work together to explore thought patterns and challenge behaviors that are not serving you. I aim to be relatable and interactive in sessions, so that you can develop a sense of trust in our work together. My intention is to create a safe and inclusive environment where you can receive validation, empathy, and guidance while learning new ways of thinking.

My Not-So-Specialties:
Clients experiencing addictions of any type or personality disorders are not the best fit for my professional background. However, I am part of a wonderful network of therapists and can provide referral options to assist you.
