Psychotherapist

My Education and Experience:
I earned my B.S. degree in Psychology from Towson University graduating cum laude. After a year working as a 1:1 aide for a student with Autism I decided to pursue my Masters in Social Work (MSW) through the University of Maryland School of Social Work. I have a specialization in Children and Families. I was also nominated to Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and the National Dean’s list. While pursuing my graduate degree I had the opportunity to work with different populations ranging from adults in an adult day program to children in a school setting. Through my different experiences I found that I was passionate about families and children. I was especially interested in helping them find the proper support to navigate difficult circumstances.

Post graduation I worked in an Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic setting. Through individual and family therapy I was able to work with children of varying ages and loved working with their families/foster families to help build bonds. This work was especially rewarding as I found that I really enjoyed being a part of the school setting and IEP (Individual Education Plan) process. From the Behavioral Health Clinic, I moved to a therapeutic non-public day school for children with Autism and other emotional concerns. I worked in this setting for six years and enjoyed both the challenges and triumphs of helping children and their families find support and success while building therapeutic relationships.

Specialties/Passions:
I love working with children of all ages and I'm a firm believer that children have so much to offer this world. Their view is open and honest and I enjoy watching them learn to express themselves (even the big feelings) in ways that benefit not only themselves but those around them. When working with children, I also find it incredibly important to include the family as a unit--happy families are a team effort! There are many pieces to the puzzle that make up our day to day lives--it brings me joy to know that the work we do with our clients makes their experience with the world better.

Not so specialties:
Couples, addiction and personality disorders are areas that are outside of my areas of experience. However, I am more than happy to help you with a referral to assist in finding someone to get you what you need!

“Beginnings are scary, endings are usually sad, but it’s the middle that counts the most. Try to remember that when you find yourself at a new beginning just give hope a change to float up. And it will!
